This Month at DH:

It is getting crowded in here.
Photography and Installation by Jason Robinson

Diagnosis

This past Friday marked the opening of DH Co-Founder, Jason Robinson's new exhibit. The show consisted of sixteen portraits, as well as three sculpture installations.

Leave Her Alone

Untitled

Robinson allowed us a glimpse into his years behind the lens; exhibiting photographs of the most influential people in his life. His portraits are almost uncomfortably intimate- as if Robinson's relationships with his subjects played as big of a role as light in their development.

Congratulations and Thank You to Jason for doing such a great show. We love you!

ORIANA SHAPLIN: INTO THE COURT
We are pleased to present the work of sculptor Oriana Shaplin!

Hailing from a summer residency at Pine Street Studios, Oriana Shaplin will show her latest collection of figurative sculpture. Shaplin has created portrait sculptures using a neo-traditional "bust" form. Shaplin sculpts from life- having the models sit for her in her studio. She then casts the sculptures in plaster.

Please join us for our second First Friday Art Walk...
It will surely be an enchanted evening! Hope to see you all there!

BROOKE MONTE RIETVELD: PAINTINGS
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2ND 6-10PM
ParrotAbstract.adjusted.BM by you.
Brooke will be displaying his large-scale paintings as our first First Friday exhibit!
Brooke makes his own stretcher bars, stretches, primes and gessos his own canvas. He uses many layers of oil paint to create a rich surface of color, while he explores forms that represent objects, animals, or a sense of place. Much like a surrealist, Brooke doesn’t know the end result of a painting until it is done. Upon meeting this end he is happy.
Brooke received his BFA from the Studio for Inter-Related Media at Mass Art. He has since then been painting pictures in Burlington. He works as a Baker at Stone Soup and has very recently been wed to Alissa Helland.

"Brooke's stunning work shows a complex use of color, with such attention to the intricacies of surface and space."

At the Creators of Human Figures Brought to Life by Benevolent Deities Support Group:

by Caylin Capra-Thomas

Geppetto tells Pygmalion that Pinocchio has grown—

and all of him this time, not just his nose—

that just when he got used to having a real boy

around he had to let him go to become a real man.

Pygmalion sighs, exhale emboldening the steam

rising from the complimentary Folgers, unsure

if he has discovered yet what it means to be a real

man. Galatea left me, he confesses: She ran off

with that monster, Frankenstein’s boy. Geppetto

can only blink and say, Jiminy Cricket in response

and Have you tried wishing on a star?  Pygmalion

scoffs, pities the old man who, he is sure, has never

made love to a woman and who is thus incapable

of understanding his loss, incapable of understanding

the thick panic he feels, imagining the rest of his life

spent not watching Galatea dress in the morning: light

trailing her hips, tracing her spine, puddling at her feet

like a shed robe.  But think—comes Geppetto’s voice,

breaking through the memory—of what we created.

Out of plain and honest longing, out of absence: life,

dear carver: life out of extraordinary loneliness.

We are pleased to have Ms. Capra-Thomas host a 2-day poetry workshop this summer! Dates TBA. Information can be found on our website calendar, or call 802.310.5019!
